Washington Matsaira

Mr. Washington Matsaira has been Group Chief Executive Officer at TSL Ltd since January 1, 2012. Mr. Matsaira served as the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe and Uganda from 2001 to 2012. He served as an Acting Chairman and non-executive director at Standard Chartered Bank Botswana Limited until November 2011 and also as a Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Plc since January 31, 2005. He is Fellow of the Institute of Bankers (Zimbabwe.

Andrej Machacek
Non Executive Director

Andrej is a British and Slovakian national. Prior to setting up PEAMEF he worked as an Investment Manager at Grassroots Capital, managing the US$120m Global Microfinance Equity Fund since 2008. Andrej was a member of the investment committee and the board of the AfriCap Microfinance Investment Company during AfriCap’s transition period between May ‘10 and Mar ‘11. Before this Andrej spent 2 years at a venture capital incubator firm, assisting entrepreneurs in refining their business models and in helping them achieve commercial scale. As a Vice President in Deutsche Bank’s Global Markets division, Andrej spent 5 years working with the bank’s Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, Financial Sponsors and Mergers & Acquisitions departments, providing the bank’s clients with traditional as well as structured equity and debt funding solutions through public as well as private capital markets and advising corporates on how to manage their foreign exchange, interest rate, commodity price and other balance sheet and P&L risk exposures. Andrej obtained his BA degree in Economics and Management from Balliol College, Oxford and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is an Open Society Foundation and Dulvert on Trust scholar.

Simon Kariuki
Non Executive Director

Simon is a Kenyan national. Prior to joining recently founded micro banking operations in KCB Bank group a leading commercial bank in East Africa with over 238 branches across 5 countries. Under his leadership KCB bank was declared the Best Micro Finance Bank in Kenya according to banking survey awards 2013. Prior to this Simon served as the Head of Micro Credit at Equity Bank , a world renowned Micro finance bank where he was instrumental in the institutions transformation from a micro finance institution to a micro finance Bank. Prior to that, Simon worked for the Co-operative Bank of Kenya in the microfinance department based at 3 of its local branches gaining a crucial practical expertise interacting with microfinance clients and their unique financial characteristics and requirements. Simon obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from Kenyatta University and is a graduate of the prestigious Boulder Micro finance Institute based in Turin, Italy. He is also an alumnus of the School of Applied Microfinance, Mombasa (Kenya) and a UNDP accredited trainer of trainers in Women Entrepreneurship Development.

Lydia Koros
Non Executive Director

Lydia is a Kenyan national and recently managed the establishment of a niche MFI focusing on the agriculture value chain in rural Kenya. Prior to this Lydia served as the Managing Director of Faulu Kenya DTM Limited from Aug ‘05 until Mar ‘10. Under her leadership Faulu became the first MFI to be licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya as a Deposit-Taking MFI. She was instrumental in spearheading the M‐Pesa mobile money transfer system pilot in Faulu Kenya and its utilization by Kenyan MFIs. She has served as the Chairperson of the Association of MFIs in Kenya, chaired the task force set up by AMFI to lobby for the passing of the Micro Finance Act and Regulations for Deposit-Taking MFIs as law. She successfully organized and chaired the Africa and Middle East Microcredit summit held in Nairobi in April 2010. Prior to entering the MFI sector, Lydia worked in Kenya Commercial Bank for over 18yrs in various capacities in the corporate and retail divisions of the Bank, including Head of Corporate Banking. Lydia holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Strategic Management and a Bachelor of Commerce degree both from the University of Nairobi. She is an alumnus of both the Strathmore and the IESE Business schools.

Tamirira Rusheche
Managing Director

With 14 years microfinance experience, Mr Rusheche has strong credentials. He was the managing director for Microking Finance for 5 years in which period he managed to transform the organisation into the best performing unit within the then AfrAsia Zimbabwe stable. Under his leadership the organisation managed to develop cross-cutting relationships with both local and international DFIs and NGOs. He spearheaded MicroKing Finance’s outreach programs to rural and peri-urban areas through partnerships and linkages various stakeholders ranging from government, development sector and other private sector players. Tamirira holds a BAcc (Hons) and MBA degrees from the University of Zimbabwe and has attended several workshops and training on microfinance. Tamirira is the past Vice Chairman and board member of the ZAMFI.
